Notes |
- Mrs. J. H. Grimmer Passes
The death occurred on Saturday morning in South Waterloo Memorial Hospital, Galt, of one of Ayr's most respected residents, Mrs. James H. Grimmer. She was in her 72nd year. Mrs. Grimmer, the former Rena Twiss, was born in Seaforth, where she spent her early years. There she married the late Mr. Grimmer in 1918 and in 1925 the couple moved to Ayr. Here the Grimmers operated a very successful tins-smith business for quite a number of years in the building now occupied by the Struthers firm. After retirement, Mr. and Mrs. Grimmer moved to Hall St. Mr. Grimmer passed away some years ago. The deceased was quite active in community work. She was quite prominent in the local Women's Institute and a past president of that organization. She was a member of Knox United Church and active in the women's organizations of the church. She was also a member of the Ayr Library Board. Before her husband's death the couple were very active lawn bowlers. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. W. D. (Maxine) Dilly, Toronto, and Mrs. Robert (Ruth) Stager. Grand Rapids, Mich.; seven grandchildren; one brother, Melvin Twiss, Sandstone, Minnesota, and one sister, Mrs. Alex McGavin, Stratford. Funeral service was held from Knox United Church on Monday with Rev. D. E. Willis officiating. Interment was made in the Ayr Cemetery.
