Native of Ayr Passes Suddenly In Toronto--Funeral Here on Tuesday
Death came Suddenly in Throw, on Saturday to James Herbert Thomson, a native of Ayr, and son of the late Rev. Dr. John Thomson, who was the minister of Knox United Church here for a period of 40 years. His passing was caused by a heart ailment from which he had been suffering for several months.
Mr. Thomson was manager of Stone & Wellington, Nurserymen, Toronto, for 40 years. He was an ardent gardener, and when the present Greenwood Park, Ayr, was being laid out he presented the park committee with 20 Norway Maple trees.
Mr. Thomson Was born and went to school here, later attending Galt splendid type of citizen and was highly esteemed by many friends here. He always held a warm spot in his heart for the village of his birth and made frequent visits to Ayr.
In Toronto Mr. Thomson was a former director of Summit Golf Club, a member of the Canadian Club since its inception and a member of Deer Park United Church.
His wife predeceased him three years ago. Surviving are four brothers, J. Arnold Thomson of Belleville; Pierre C. Thomson, Toronto; Major W. R. Thomson. overseas with the Canadian army, and George M. Thomson. Toronto.
The Funeral.
Following a chapel service in Toronto on Monday afternoon, which was attended by many Ayr friends in the Queen City, the funeral took place to Ayr Cemetery on Tuesday morning upon the arrival of the C.P.R. train from Toronto. The service at the graveside was conducted by Rev Thos. Merryweather ind the pallbearers were as follows: John A. Manson, James K. Kyle, Robert McRuer, James Welsh, Alex McRae. and Percy Hilborn, Preston.
