Notes |
- Death of John Gillespie - The death occurred on Thursday night at 7.30 o'clock of John Gillespie, Stanley street, in his 64th year. Deceased had sustained a stroke almost four years ago, from the effects of which he never fully recovered. He became seriously ill on Monday and failed to rally. Mr. Gillespie was born in Newcastle, England, and came to Canada when a lad of sixteen, settling in Kincardine. Taking out papers as a stationary engineer, he sailed the Great Lakes for a number of years. He later worked for the John Watson Mfg. Company, Ayr, for a couple of years, and for ten years operated a street car in Brantford. He also worked in Galt and Paris, and removed back to Ayr from Detroit in 1930. Possessing a pleasing personality, he made many warm friends and was invariably highly regarded by his fellow employees. Besides his widow, whose maiden name was Annie Scott, he is survived by the following children: Harry, Mrs. Fred. Gray and Mrs. George Shearer, all of Detroit, and Helen, at home. The funeral took place to the Ayr Cemetery on Saturday afternoon and was largely attended. Rev. J. W. Currie conducted the services, and the pallbearers were: James Scott, Detroit ; Frank Vinal, Brantford ; J. W. Currie, Wm. Manson, Harold Plumstead and E. H. Freer. Among the out of town friends present for the obsequies were the following: Harry Gillespie, Mrs. Fred Gray and son, Mr. and Mrs. George Shearer, Harry Scott, James Scott and Mrs. S. Cressy, all of Detroit; Mrs. William. Solomon, Royal Oak, Mich.; Mrs. Margaret Isard, Mr. and Mrs. Douglas McKay, Kincardine; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Vinal, Mrs. C. Harper, Mrs. B. Fish and son, James Pollock and Douglas Pollock, all of Brantford.
