  William Watkins In His 89th Year Long-time Ayr resident, William Watkins passed away in K-W Hospital on Sunday morning, July 7, after a short illness. He was in his 89th year. Born in Plymouth, England, Mr. Watkins came to Canada in 1904 and stayed in Fredericton, N.B. for five years. Before coming to Ayr, he returned to England for one year. Upon coming to Ayr, he worked in the blacksmith shop at the John Watson Mfg. Co. for 45 years before retiring 11 years ago. In 1928 he married the former Mary Armstrong, daughter of Robert and Barbara Armstrong of Ayr. The couple were married 40 years last week. Mr. Watkins was a faithful member of Christ Anglican Church which he helped to build during 1912 to 1914. After retirement he took an active interest in the work of the Ayr Horticultural Society. Surviving, besides his wife, are a sister, Mrs. H. M. Langmaid of Plymouth, England, and three nieces. - The Funeral - Funeral service was held from Christ Anglican Church on Tuesday afternoon with Rev. N. A. Tilford officiating. Interment was in Ayr Cemetery. Pallbearers were Murray Smith, Tim Smith, Gilbert Gemmell, Leo Hadley, Glenn Dance and Clarence Leiska. The Ayr News Jul 11 1968 pg 1
