Notes |
- Death Of Thomas Hope - Esteemed Ayr Resident Passes Away in Stratford on Monday Morning - Following a heart attack, the sudden death occurred in Stratford on Monday morning at 1.30 o'clock of Thomas W. Hope, Hall Street, Ayr, in his 80th year. Mr. Hope sustained a fall on the ice at his back door step some ten days prior to his demise, and was badly shaken up. Following this, he decided to visit for a time with his brother, George, at Stratford, and left for the Classic City at the end of the week. He became ill on Sunday evening, and death followed in a few hours. Deceased was born in this village, the son of Thomas Hope and Janet Clark. He had lived retired for many years, but in his younger days worked as a painter and in other occupations. For a number of years, he worked as a saddler in the shop of Hugh Davis, and worked in the shoe repair shop of Jas. Pickett, Sr. At one time, he conducted a small blacksmith shop here, where he made spurs and horse bits, which he took to Western Canada each year and disposed of to the ranchers. Deceased, who was of a quiet, unassuming disposition, was unmarried. He was highly esteemed by everyone who knew him, and word of his sudden death came as a distinct shock to the whole community. He is survived by one brother, George, of Stratford. The funeral will take place from his late residence, Hall Street, to Ayr Cemetery this (Wednesday) afternoon at 3 o'clock.
