Notes |
- David Cuthbertson Prominent Ayr Resident Passes In His 66th Year
Following an illness of many years duration, the death occurred at his home on Main street Saturday night of David Cuthbertson, in his 66th year. The deceased had been practically an invalid for the greater part of his life, and much of the comfort and pleasure enjoyed by the most of us were denied him.
Born in Ayr s son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Cuthbertson, he had spent the greater portion of his lifetime in this village where he was highly esteemed by a wide circle of friends and business acquaintances. While not active in municipal and public affairs generally, he was always deeply concerned and intensely interested in everything pertaining to the welfare of his native village.
The late Mr. Cuthbertson was a tailor by trade, having served his apprenticeship with the late Thomas Anderson. Following several years in Woodstock and Stratford, he conducted his own establishment here on the site now occupied by the public library. When the old block of buildings was dismantled some 26 years ago, he removed his business to his residence at Jedburgh. He had been living in semi-retirement for some years past, however.
The deceased was a member of Dolman Lodge, I.O.O.F., and a member of the former Stanley Street Church, later affiliating with Knox United Church at the time of union. He was a member of the local bowling club for some years while his health permitted, and also served as a member of the board of health several year ago.
Besides his widow whose maiden name was Chrissie Wilson, he is survived by three brothers, viz.: William D. of London. John of Collinsville, Ill., and Thomas D. of Toronto.
The funeral, took place to the Ayr Cemetery on Monday afternoon, was largely attended by relatives and old friends. There were many beautiful floral tributes. The services were conducted by Rev. J. W. Currie , and the pallbearers, including five nephews, were: L. L. Cuthbertson, Toronto; E. F.. Cuthbertson, Oshawa*,, J. P. Stuart, Galt, Hugh Melvin, Bert Melvin and John Henderson, Ayr.
