- Passing of James Elliott
Was Star Goal Tender of Former O.H.A. Team - Funeral on Saturday
It will be with regret that many of his old friends will learn of the passing at his home, 262 George Street, Toronto, on October 29 of James Elliott, a former resident and native of this village, aged 78 years.
In his younger days, Mr. Elliott was a hockey player of note and was goal tender of the great Ayr senior O.H.A. team of long ago which battled it out with Kingston in the finals for the championship of Ontario, losing by a narrow margin. "Jimmy", as he was popularly known, was the stellar goal tender of many local teams over a lengthy term of years. In the early days of the Kingston game Ayr "iced" one of the few O.H.A.teams west of Toronto.
While residing in this community Mr. Elliott was employed for many years at the Hilborn plow works and hockey stick factory.
He was a member of Dolman Lodge, I.O.O.F., and received his 50-year jewel some two years ago. He had resided in Toronto for many years, and was a member of the United Church.
He is survived by his widow, the former Mayme Carruthers.
The Funeral
Following a service in Toronto on Friday night, the funeral took place on Saturday afternoon from the W. O. Ball Funeral Parlor to the Ayr Cemetery. Rev. R. A. Steed, pastor of Knox United Church, conducted the services, and the many beautiful floral tributes were silent tokens of the respect and esteem in which the late Mr. Elliott was held. The pallbearers were: James D. Patterson, Robert Page, Robert Little, William Underwood, J. C. Kyle and E. C. Krantz.
