    • Bert Edward Weller Passes

      The death occurred in South Waterloo Memorial Hospital on Saturday at midnight following a prolonged illness of Bert Edward Weller in his 50th year. Born in Sittingbourne, England, a son of Mrs. Weller of Brantford and the late Bert Weller, he came to Canada with his parents in 1923, settling in Brantford. Following his marriage in 1945 to Frances Liddle, he came to Ayr the following year, where he had since resided. During the intervening years he worked for several firms in Galt prior to securing employment with Premier Spring and Mfg. Ltd., Ayr. Mr. Weller was a member of the Anglican Church and belonged to the Ayr Community Band for some time. He was a veteran of World War II, going overseas in 1939 with the 54th Battery from Brantford with which unit he had been associated for years. Bert was quite an authority on spectator sport, principally hockey and baseball. Surviving, besides his widow, are a daughter, Susan Dale; a step-daughter, Mrs. George (Fay) Cassidy, Ayr; his mother in Brantford, and two sisters, Mrs. Percy (Helen) Fletcher of Brantford and Mrs. Gordon (Amy) Robertson of Toronto. He was predeceased by his father and brother George. A memorial service was held at the W. R. Coutts Funeral Home, Galt on Monday evening by the Ayr Branch of the Canadian Legion of which the deceased was a member. The Funeral Funeral service was held Tuesday afternoon at Christ Church, conducted by Herbert Bull, assisted by Rev. Ladd of Brantford. Interment was made in Ayr Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Dee King, Walter Goodfellow, Allan Teather, Percy Fletcher, Frank Sanders and George Cassidy.
