  George Smye The death occurred at St. Joseph's Hospital, Brantford on Wednesday, May 14, 1997 of George William Smye of Ayr. He was in his 87th year. Born in Blenheim Township he was the son of Margaret Gemmell and George Smye. Mr. Smye who farmed west of Greenfield prior to retiring to Ayr, was a life long member of Knox United Church, Ayr. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Emily Wight; his daughter Margaret and her husband Herbert Thompson of Paris and his son Gordon and his wife Theressa of Rockwood; three grandchildren Tom, Jennifer and Jamie; and by his brother Lloyd and his wife Dorothy of Ayr. Funeral service was held at Knox United Church on Friday, May 16 at 2: 00 p.m. Reverend Fred Hagle officiated. Interment was in Ayr Cemetery. The Ayr News 21 May 1997 pg 15
