- REV. JOHN SMITH HARDIE, Presbyterian Minister, Ayr, Ont. , was born at Forfar, Scotland, August 2ist, 1852. He received his early education at the parish schools, Forfar. At the age of fourteen, he entered mercantile life. In 1871, he came to the United States, and two years afterwards, to Brantford, Out. In due time, he entered Knox College, Toronto, where he completed his theological course, graduating in April, 1885. As soon as licensed, he was called to Stanley Street Church, Ayr, and on June 2nd, 1885, he was ordained and inducted into his present charge where he has been much blessed in his labor. He is a spirited citizen, possesses great industry, and is active in temperance and social reform. Mr. Hardie married, August i2th, 1885, Mary A., daughter of Thomas Herrett, merchant, Guelph, Ont.

Rev J. S. Hardie
The death occurred in London on Wednesday of Rev. J. S. Hardie, a former pastor of Stanley Street Presbyterian Church, Ayr, aged about 70 years. Rev. Mr. Hardie was pastor here for some twelve years, leaving about 31 years ago for Listowel. He was a fearless speaker and, when residing here, was considered one of the best preachers in the Paris Presbytery. He is survived by three children: Stanley, Margaret and David. The funeral will take place from his late residence, London, on Friday afternoon at 12.30 p.m., and will proceed by motor to Ayr Cemetery, where he will be buried by the side of his wife, who died some ten years ago. It is expected the funeral cortege will arrive here between 3 and 4 o'clock.
