- The Passing of Frederick J. Golding
Since our last issue Death has again been our midst, and claimed for its victim a young man, who was well known and highly esteemed. We speak of the demise of Frederick J. Golding, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Golding, which sad event occurred at the family residence, William St., on Friday, Jan. 22, in his 28th year. It was, indeed, with profound sorrow that his numerous friends heard of his passing to the Great Beyond. Born in Hibbert Township in 1881, he came to Ayr with his parents the following year, and spent his boyhood days here. Seven years ago he went to Brantford, where he worked at his trade, that of plumbing, until last May, when he was forced to seek the care and comforts of the parental home in an effort to recuperate the strength and health which were fast failing him. Deceased was a model young man, being loved for his goodness, his beautiful character and unostentatious disposition. He was a member of St. Andrews Presbyterian church, Brantford, and took a deep interest in the C.E. and Bible Class in connection with that church. He also belonged to the Chosen Friends, and the I.O.O.F. Besides the sorrowing parents, one sister and one brother survive, viz., Mrs. Wm. J. Woo!sey and Mr. Ernest Golding, both of Ayr. The funeral, which took place on Sabbath afternoon (the day on which, had he lived, he would have reached his 28th birthday) to the Ayr cemetery, was very largely attended, the services being conducted by Rev. T. H. Abbott, assisted by Rev. D. I. Ellison. The pallbearers were Messrs. Ed. Whitson, James Swan, .John Watson, E. R. Scott, Geo. Swan and Geo. T. Allan.
