- Grace Lewis Found Dead in Her Home
A lifelong resident of the area, Miss Grace Lewis was found dead on the floor of her home on Cooper St. on Sunday by Constable Reg. Sever and village councilor Mrs. J. T. Gillies. Miss Lewis was in her mid-sixties. The discovery was made after a group from the Church of the Nazarene in Preston, who call on sick and shut-ins, was unable to receive an answer at the door. They queried a neighbor, Barney Smith, who said he had last seen her the previous Wednesday. Constable Sever, accompanied by the councilor, forced the door and found Miss Lewis' body on the floor. The constable said there had been no fire in the house for several days. Dr. Gerald Lynne Davies, coroner and medical officer of health, said she had been dead several days from exposure. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Lewis, who were prominent farmers in the district. She was born in this area and lived for many years with her parents on the farm east of Ayr known as the Hipel place. She had lived in the village for close to 20 years. Only close relative is a niece in Mimico.
The Funeral
Funeral service was held today (Wednesday) at the W. O. Ball Funeral Parlor, with interment in Ayr Cemetery Chapel. Rev. W. J. V. Buchanan officiated.
