- Jim Mast Sr.
James Charles Mast, a long time resident of Ayr, passed away in Cambridge Memorial Hospital on Thursday, February 7th. He was in his 66th year. Born in Puslinch, he was a son of the late Bernard Charles Mast and Annie May Tennant. Mr. Mast was a long time employee of CP rail, working first as a lineman, then as a gateman in Galt. When a rail overpass replaced the Galt gates, he worked for a time at Date Industries, Ayr. then for several years at Carborundum Abrasives in Plattsville. retiring in August. An avid euchre player, he was a member of the Cedar Creek team in the Galt Farmers League and also played regularly in Paris and Drumbo. He enjoyed hockey and in years past had helped with several Ayr teams. He also donated his services as gate keeper for the Waterloo-Oxford Rural League games in Ayr. For a time in the early 1970's he was manager of Ayr Arena. Beloved husband of Doreen (nee Hawes); dear father of Jim and his wife Shirley. Norm and his wife Peggy, Len and his wife Janet, Don, Bonnie (Mrs. Jim Brown), Peggy (Mrs. Ken Gemmell), Karen and Brian Stapleton and Helen Mast, all of Ayr and Doug and his wife Debbie of Cambridge; loved grandfather of 12; dear brother of Doug, John and Stan Mast, all of the Guelph area. Rested at Coutts and Son Funeral Home, Galt, where Rev. Roy Shepherd officiated at the funeral service on Saturday. Interment Ayr Cemetery.
