Notes |
- Lorna Marilyn Cress (nee Case) Lorna Cress in her 81st year, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, May 31, 2012 at St. Joseph's Hospital after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. She was born August 1, 1931 in Fort William to Olive and Norman Case. She grew up in Franz, Ontario on the Algoma Central Railway. She moved with her parents to Kakabeka Falls in 1947. She attended Fort William Collegiate High School in Fort William. She worked at the former hotel by Kakabeka Falls. She attended Port Arthur Business College and worked for the Ontario Department of Mines in the court house in Port Arthur. While at St Joseph's Hospital she joked that she was back where she started as she overlooked the court house. After a 5 year courtship, she married Robert Cress on April 24, 1954 at Trinity United Church. They lived in Port Arthur before moving to Kelly, a section on the C.N.R. In 1958 they moved to Kawene where she was the post mistress. In 1959 they moved to Mebella and then back to Kawene in 1960. She worked as an assistant cook at Quetico Centre. In 1969, they moved to Thunder Bay. She worked at the Telstar Motel and Happyland Trailer Park. She enjoyed travelling and her trips included Chicago, Montreal, California, Reno, BC, Southern Ontario, and New Orleans. She enjoyed the outdoors and loved to fish, ski, snowshoe and hunt. Her claim to fame was when she caught a 56 inch sturgeon in Rainy River. She recently received her 30 year WI pin. She is survived by son Dana (Barb Garton), daughter Lori (Howard Advent), grandson Andre DePlonty, granddaughter Roberta DePlonty, long time friend Art Dupuis, and sister-in-laws Doris Cress, Jackie Cress, Dorothea Case, and Berniece Cress, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Robert Cress, her parents Olive and Norman Case and brothers Norman and Kenwood and brothers and sister-in-laws Irma Case, Don Cress, Jean and George Kargus, Mary Louise and Jack Bartlett, George Cress, Grace and James Baird, Mildred and Lorne Hannusch and Phillip Cress.
