Notes |
- William was listed a Sergeant in the military at the time of his death. William graduated from the Royal Infantry School at London Ontario on 6 July 1889. His Certificate of Military Instruction indicated he was a member of the 29th Battalion. This was likely the 29th Waterloo Battalion of Infantry which would become 29th Regiment (Highland Light Infantry of Canada) during the First World War, and in more recent times, The Royal Highland Fusiliers of Canada. The 29th Battalion originated in Berlin, Ont (now known as Waterloo, Ont) on 14 September 1866. William later lived in Kingston, Ontario where he married in 1894. The Canadian Military College was located in Kingston but William's relationship to the College requires more research.
William married Aggie Stokes in Kingston on 7 August 1894. Their two sons were subsequently born there. William's father, John, died in a Kingston Hospital in 1899. By the time of the 1901 Canada Census, the family had moved back to London Ont. They were living at 514 Quebec St when William sr and William jr died in 1903. William's widow remarried in 1909, and his surviving son, George Andrew, would go on to serve in the Canadian military during the First and Second World Wars.
