  Amelia Burkhardt, detested sweet peas because those were the flowers that bloomed when her mother died. Email from Lesley Lynch 2013 ____________________________ It appears that she came to Canada with her mother and several siblings sometime after her father died in Germany. My grandmother mentioned that her mother (Amelia) remembers her mother (Elisabethe Lang Burkhardt) would bake bread and the native American children would come looking for handouts, which presumably she gave them. Family lore is that Elisabethe died after stepping on a rusty nail during the building of the farmhouse which caused tetanus.
