  Mr. Hinderer, the editor of "Bauern. "Friend," was dangerously ill for a few weeks, but is now on the mend; we hope that he will soon be completely recovered. Berliner Journal Kitchener, Ontario, Canada Thu, May 18, 1865 Page 2 - Google translation _____________ One of the oldest German weeklies in the county was "Der Canadische Bauernfreund", which flourished for nearly sixty years. It originated in Preston in January 1851 under the proprietorship of Joseph Erb, with J. Teuscher as editor. In a few years it was sold to Moses Springer, later a member of the Provincial Parliament and after that Sheriff of the County, who removed it to Waterloo. In 1862 Joachim Kalbfleisch was publisher and John Hinderer editor. The "Bauernfreund" after uniting with itself the "Deutsche Zeitung" and the "Volksblatt" was in turn absorbed by the "Berliner Journal", all as already stated.
