- WILKINS, John Wallace "Dooley"
1924-2010. It is with a measure of both sadness at his passing and great joy of a life well lived, that we announce the death of John "Dooley" Wilkins on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at Stirling Heights Long Term Care Centre. Predeceased in September 2007, by his wife of 57 years, Dorothy (Reuter). Loving father of Mary and her husband Wayne Burnet of Cambridge and Thomas Wilkins and Heather Fliegel of Wasaga Beach. Dooley was a very special "Poppy" to Brooke Burnet, and a loving Grandpa to Thomas and Katelyn Wilkins. Dooley was predeceased by his brother Bruce, and Bruce's wife Gloria (Reuter). He will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. Dooley served in WWII and was a Life Member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 126 in Preston. He was an avid sportsman, playing both hockey and baseball. After WWII, Dooley stayed overseas and played goal for the Canadian Forces Hockey Team, winning the European Cup. He was well-known locally as a gifted sign-writer and artist. Friends and relatives are welcomed to a Memorial Gathering to celebrate Dooley's life on Sunday, March 7, 2010, from 2: 00-4: 00 p.m. in the "Gathering Space" of Stirling Heights Long Term Care Centre, 200 Stirling MacGregor Drive, in Cambridge. Words cannot express the deep gratitude and love we feel towards Dooley's "family" at Stirling Heights. He loved you all very deeply. Arrangements entrusted to the Corbett Funeral Home.
