      PRESTON, Sept. 12. Esteemed Preston resident for 35 years, Janet Blair, widow of John Cowie, died in the Galt General Hospital, early today, at the age of 73 years. Mrs. Cowie suffered a fractured pelvis in a fall at her home, last Wednesday and had been confined to hospital since Friday. Born in Tarbet, near Grand Valley, Ont., she was educated at Orangeville High School and Toronto Normal School and taught at Springbank, near London, for some years. Thirty-five years ago she came to Preston from Ailsa Craig and made her home here since that time. She won a large circle of friends in the municipality for her active participation in church and community affairs. A member of St. Paul's United Church, the late Mrs. Cowie was active in the Women's Missionary Society of the church, holding a life. membership. She was also instrumental in starting the Young Women's Association of the church. A former member of the local Board of Old Age Pensions and Mother's Allowances in the County of Waterloo, she was also a former Preston member of the advisory board of the Braeside Home Service Training School, for Girls, which operated here for some years. Her husband, John Cowie, former principal of the Preston public school for many years, predeceased her three years ago. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. W. Leslie (Margaret) Hogg, of Preston; a grandson, a brother, Dr. J. K. Blair of Arthur and a sister, Miss L. B. Blair of Arthur. The body will rest at the residence, 749 Moore St., Preston, after Tuesday morning. The funeral will be held Wednesday, at 2: 30, with internment in the Preston Cemetery.
