  Herman Schmidt PRESTON— Herman Schmidt, 456 Margaret St., well-known Preston resident for the past 55 years, died at his home Sunday. Mr. Schmidt was 78. Confined to his home for a few months. He had been critically ill for two weeks. Born at South Easthope, near Tavistock, on June 24, 1877, the late Mr. Schmidt came to Preston 55 years ago and had made his home on Margaret street for the past 32 years. He was employed with Otto Homuth and Sons for 42 years, retiring in 1952. He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church. His wife, Lovina Schmidt, predeceased him 10 years ago. Surviving is a daughter, Miss Violet Schmidt, at home; two brothers, Edward Schmidt of Bornholm, Ont. and William Hinz of Mitchell; two sisters, Mrs. Henry Koch of Stratford, and Mrs. Joseph Klein of Detroit. The body is at the Stager-Pass Funeral Home where the funeral will be held Wednesday at 2 o'clock with Rev. J. S. Dauphinee officiating. Interment will be in the Preston cemetery.
