    • Martin Ewald worked as office manager for Clare Bros foundry. In 1911 he became the secretary-treasurer of the Canadian Buffalo Sled Co. becoming president in 1921. His company became the largest children's wagons and sled manufacturer in the British Empire and employed 150 in Preston.

      Industrialist In Preston Dies at 80

      PRESTON, One of Preston's leading industrialists, Martin B. Ewald, 80, died yesterday at his home, 653 Queen St., Preston. At the time of his death, he was president and general manager of Canadian Buffalo Sled Company Ltd. Born in Preston, Mr. Ewald was first associated with a stove firm and worked out of Montreal. He then joined the sled firm, served as secretary-treasurer from 1911 to 1921 and as president and general manager from 1921 to his death. Under hisdirection, the company became one of the largest firmsmaking sleds and wagons for children, in the British Empire. As a young man he was active in sports, especially baseball and speed skating. He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church and a former member of Preston-Hespeler Rotary Club. His wife, the former Helen S. Dennis, died in 1953. Surviving are one daughter. Mrs. Alfred (Betty) Pautler, Preston; two sisters, Mrs. Henry Schultz, and Mrs. Thomas Murray, both of Preston; two brothers, George, Moira, Ont. and Louis, Detroit; and three grandchildren. The body is at the Stager-Pass Ltd., funeral home, Preston, where the funeral will be held Thursday, at 2: 30. Interment will be in Preston Cemetery.
