- Inquest Opened at Preston Yesterday
How Injuries Received A Mystery
Yesterday at Preston an inquest touching the death of Roy S. Brauch who died on April 16th as the result of injuries received on April 11th was opened before Coroner J. H. Radford. Mr. D. S. Bowlby of this city was present and watched the case on behalf of the Crown.
From the brought out it appears the deceased, who is nineteen years of age, arrived home at noon on April 11th from his place of employment, the Preston Car and Coach Co., suffering from an acute headache.
Later in the day Dr. Hogg was called in and ordered the patient be kept in a darkened room. As his condition did not improve Dr. Oakes was consulted a few days later. However, the young man passed away on April 16th.
What .......... that Brauch had suffered, two fractures of the skull, which spinal meningitis had developed.
Just how the injuries were received is a mystery.
A fellow employee stated the deceased was alright when they, walked to work on the morning April 11th, but when going home at noon hour he complained of a severe headache. He had stated he was struck on the head with a sander when an air pipe burst. Later, he had informed Dr. Oakes that he had fallen down and injured his head.
As several witnesses, whose testimony is of vital importance, were not present yesterday an adjournment until they can be located was made.
