Notes |
- The Body Found
We mentioned a couple of weeks ago that a Mrs. Pelz, of Preston, had wandered away from her home in a fit of mental aberration, and that all efforts to trace her whereabouts had up to that time failed. The search was continued unsuccessfully during the ensuring week, rumors being prevalent that she had been seen in Guelph, Beverly, Ayr and other places, but on investigation, these rumors turned out incorrect. It being believed by many that the unfortunate woman had committed suicide, the river above Galt was dragged by no clue to her fate was obtained. On Friday morning last, however, as a boy named Robert Taylor was looking at the water flowing over the dam, he saw what he believed to be a human body tossing about beneath the falls. He at once ran and notified others, and a boat and ropes being procured the body was with much difficulty secured and brought to the shore.
It was surmised that the remains were those of Mrs. Pelz, and her husband and others being notified were soon on the spot and identification fully established. The body was conveyed to her late residence in Preston during the forenoon, and interred in the cemetery there the same day. The deceased was a daughter of Mr. Charles Kreamer, of that village, and leaves a large family to mourn her sad death. The finding of her body as described leaves no doubt that the unfortunate woman committed suicide by throwing herself in to the dam, and that the rise in the water carried the remains over the falls.
