Philip Pfeiffer
The funeral of the late Philip Pfeiffer, who passed away Friday in his 78th year from his late residence on Queen street at 2.30 o'clock yesterday Having lived in Preston years afternoon. Mr. Pfeiffer's death was loss to many. A large number of former friends and relatives attended the funeral and the many beautiful floral tributes spoke eloquently of their high respect for the deceased. For many years Mr. Pfeiffer had been employed in the moulding shop of Clare Bros. Foundry, one of Preston's oldest established firms. and the pall were practically all former associates at the foundry.
The deceased was born in Albany. N. Y., and on May 21, 1877 he married Miss Leaf Kraft. On May 21, last Mr. and Mrs. Pfeiffer were privileged to celebrate their wedding anniversary. The Pfeiffer family moved from Albany N. Y. to Canada 1852, the deceased then being but a child of two years old. Arrived Hamilton the family made the journey from there to Preston thru a district which was nothing but bush, now a prosperous farming country. Preston was only small settlement straggled along the banks of the Speed river and King The part of the town on the street north bank of the river was consider a separate community and then a known as Cambridge.
Philip Preiffer, grew up advanced with from the community has a struggling settlement to a prosperous manufacturing community of six thousand souls. There are three generous of Pfeiffers living in Preston. He is survived by his widow, nine children, two sisters and four brothers. The children are Messrs. Herbert, William, Charles and Milton Pfeiffer, all of Preston, and Mrs. William Richert, of Detroit, Mrs. William Lawrason, Rochester, N. Y., Mrs. Victor Nerlich, of St. John, N. B., and Mrs. Hummel St. and Miss Frieda, both of Preston. The sisters are Mrs. J. Kirchofer, Hespeler, and Mrs. Daniel Kinzie, the brothers being Yarrick, John, Fred and Charles, of Preston.
The services were conducted by Rev. W. H. Knauff, of St. Peter's Lutheran church, of which the deceased was a member, assisted by Rev. A. O. Foreman, of the United Church. Messrs. Thos. Parker, John Brill, John Betke, John Doyle, Wm. Brill, John Fach and John Tait were the pall bearers. Interment was in the Preston Cemetery.
