    • Louis Evers

      PRESTON, Oct. 11 - Louis Evers, 98, died at the K-W Hospital Annex, at Knollwood Park, Kitchener, Saturday night. A lifelong resident of Preston the late Mr, Evers had, through many years of association in the community, formed a large circle of friends. His death followed an illness of three years, during which time he was confined to hospital. Born on Guelph St., Preston, he lived on the same street all his life. He took a keen interest in the progress of the municipality. A carpenter by trade, he conducted his own contracting business for some years and was in charge of some important carpenter undertakings in Preston, including the Town Hall, St. Peter's Lutheran Church and some of Clare Bros. buildings. For many years he was an engineer at Pattinson Woollen Mill, and for 30 years owned a grocery store adjacent to his home on Guelph St. Four wives predeceased him. Surviving are three daughters. Mrs. Charles (Margueretha) Knack and Mrs. Arthur (Regina) Burrell, of Preston, and Mrs. William (Ida) Ottaway of St. Thomas; four sons. George and Edward Evers of Preston, Louis Evers of New York City and Clifford Evers of Far Rockaway, Long Island, New York; a brother, E. N. Evers of Santa Cruz, Calif. Ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive. The funeral was held today at the Stager-Pass Funeral Home. Interment was in Preston Cemetery.
