    • One of Twins, New Dundee Man is Ninety-Four

      NEW DUNDEE. - August Lautenschlager, this village's oldest resident, observed his 94th birthday on Wednesday, Sept. 1st. Although he is not in the best of health he still has a remarkable memory. Failing eyesight prevents him from indulging in one of his favorite pastimes that of reading the newspaper but he is always interested in hearing the news from his many friends who call on him. Mr. Lautenschlager usually stays in bed until noon and then spends the remainder of the day sitting in his favorite armchair, never retiring until 10 p.m. which has been his bedtime for many years.

      Since retiring from farming 31 years ago he has been an enthusiastic gardener as long as health permitted and his beautiful flowers always drew the admiration of the townsfolk.

      Mr. Lautenschlager was one of twin sons born to Mr. and Mrs. Philip Lautenschlager at Preston in 1849. His wife, formerly Julia Gruetzner passed away in 1928 and five of his seven children are still living namely. Mrs. J. Buck. Miss Lily Lautenschlager, Mrs. L. Zinken, Edward and Arthur all of New Dundee. He also has 13 grandchildren and 4 great grand- children. Mr. Lautenschlager has been a life-long member of the Baptist Church.
