  HARRY STEEL PRESTON, June 4--Harry Steel Sr., died at his home last night after an illness of three months. A well known and highly respected resident of the town for the past 30 years; he was prominent in industrial, municipal, fraternal and churth work of the town. Mr. Steel was active in many other phases of community work, including sport. Born in Northampton, England, he came to Canada in 1887 and was married the following year at Montreal. His wife died last year. Before coming to Preston in 1914 he made his home in Central New York State and for nine years in Quebec City. He was associated with the Parker-Steel Shoes Limited, Preston, from 1914 till 1930 when he retired to take a position with the Savage Shoe Company. He retired ten years ago. Mr. Steel served as alderman on the Municipal Council eight years and also as trustee on the Public School Board, for eight years, holding the chairmanship of the board for a number of years. He was, a past president of the former Preston Athletic Club which flourished some years ago. He was a member of Preston A. F. and A. M., Royal Arch Masons, Cambridge Lodge IOOF and Victory Encampment and of St. Paul's United Church, where he served on the church board for many years. The late Mr. and Mrs. Steel celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Feb. 24, 1938. Surviving are four sons, Major H. W. Steel, Camp Borden, Fred Steel, Preston, Ralph W., Kitchener and Lieut. A. T. Steel, Chatham; one daughter, Mrs. John R. Panabaker, Preston and one brother, Arthur Steel, Northampton, England. Six grandchildren also survive. One daughter, Florence Eva, died in 1933. The remains are resting at his residence 866 Queen Street, from where the funeral will be held Sunday, at 2.30 p.m. Interment will be in Preston Cemetery.
