- Henry Stiefelmeyer (1853-1920) and William Schaaf(e) (1846-1910) were partners in a boot, shoe, and liquor business in New Hamburg, ON from 1890 to about 1894.
Stiefelmeyer was originally from Rochester, New York and his father, John Ulrich, was a doctor in New Hamburg. Henry was a jeweller and watchmaker for about 20 years prior to going into business with William. In 1894, Henry once again opened a jewellery store, which he operated for the next decade.
Henry married Bertha Krauss (1857-1936), daughter of Christoph and Elizabeth, in 1876. Henry is buried in the Fairmount Lutheran Cemetery in Baden, ON.
William Schaaf(e) (1846-1910) was a merchant from New Hamburg, ON. After the partnership with Henry fails, William opened a wholesale liquor store in New Hamburg in 1896. He is buried in the Riverside Cemetery in New Hamburg.

- Death of Mr. Wm. Schaaf.
One of the most prominent and well-known business men of New Hamburg was called to his eternal rest early on Wednesday morning, the 17th inst., in the person of Mr. William Schaaf, at the age of 64 years, 10 months and 28 days, takes ill with quincy last Thursday, he went home upon the advice of his doctor. His illness took a rapid turn to the worse, and despite all medical aid he sank until death claimed him on Wednesday morning. The deceased was a son of the late Henry Schaaf, and was born near Petersburg on September 20th, 1846. In early manhood he learnt the trade of shoemaker and came to New Hamburg in 1866, where he embarked in the shoe business and had since been one of our best known business men. In 1879 he also went into the wholesale liquor business, which be carried on up to the time of his death. He took a prominent part in the municipal affairs of the town and for twenty-two years was a trustee of our public school. Deceased was one of the chartered members of Nith Lodge No. 96, I. 0. 0. F. and also a member of Charity Encampment, Stratford, of the same Order. He was married to Louisa Gartung, daughter of the late Ernst Gartung, who with a family of eight children is left to mourn the loss of a loving and indulgent husband and father. The children are: Henry of Lisbon, N. D.; John of Alpena, Mich.; William of Listowel; Mrs. Jas. Gough, of Dryden, Ont.; Mrs. Fred Paine, of New Hamburg and Misses Melvina, Clara and Minnie at home. The funeral will be held tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon at 2 o'clock from his late residence to the Lutheran Church for service and thence to Riverside Cemetery for interment. The funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Vosz of Baden and Rev. Maass of Zurich, the latter will proside in English and the former in German, the pastor, Rev. C. Zarnke, being absent. The bereaved family have the sympathy of the entire community in their sad and sudden bereavement.
