      At the K-W Hospital, on Sunday, April 1, 1973, after a lengthy illness, William Martin Near, of 821 King St. W., Kitchener, age 77 years, born in Erin Township, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William T. Near, a resident of the Twin Cities for the past 33 years and formerly of Guelph. Mr. Near was employed by Bell Canada for 40 years, he retired as a supervising construction foreman, March 31, 1960. A member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church and the retired Businessmen and Professional Men's Club, a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, past master of Walker Lodge, A.F. and A.M., Acton, and affiliated with the Twin City Lodge AF and A.M. Husband of Mary Vanatter; father of William D. and Audrey (Mrs. James Bester), both of Kitchener and Margaret Near of Toronto; seven grandchildren also survive; predeceased by a brother, Alexander and a sister, Mary Ellen. Friends may call at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home, 621 King St. W., Kitchener. Funeral and committal service at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Wednesday, at 3 p.m. with Dr. Finlay G. Stewart officating. Interment Memory Gardens.
