Reserved overseas in the First World War with the 10th Battalion railway troops after enlisting at the age of 14. Since his retirement from the fire department, Mr. Shilling had worked as a security guard with Marsland Engineering Limited. He was a member of Holy Saviour Anglican Church, the Twin City Masonic Lodge, the Waterloo chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Canadian Legion. Surviving are his wife, the former Lena Degen; three sons, William W., of Kitchener and Robert and John E., of Waterloo, a daughter, Mrs. Jacob(Lillian) Heer of Breslau, two bothers, Percy and Horace of Kitchener and eightgrandchildren.
