  ELEAM J. NEAR PRESTON, Sept. 14 - A resident of Preston for 35 years, Eleam John Near, 67, died today at his Eagle Street home. He had been ailing for more than a year. Born in Garafraxa Township, he lived in Doon and later in Chicago, before taking up residence in Preston. Mr. Near was a member of Preston Baptist Church. He worked for James Gillies and Son Ltd., for 31 years and latterly was employed at Pattison's Woollen Mill. Surviving are his wife, formerly Stella Henley; one daughter. Sgt. Phyllis Near, C.W.A.C., Kitchener; two brothers, Levi, Galt and James, Breslau and one sister, Mrs. Ellen Jamieson, Hamilton. A son, John, predeceased him in March. The remains are resting at his home, 701 Eagle Street, from where the funeral will be held Thursday at 2: 30. Interment will be in Preston Cemetery. Kitchener Daily Record 14 Sep 1943 pg 15
