- John Heimbecker
PRESTON, June 5--well-known Preston resident, John Albert Heimbecker died at his home at 7 o'clock this morning, after an illness of four years, at the age of 51. During his 29 years in Preston, where he conducted a barber shop, Mr. Heimbecker, through his diversified activities and community interest, including a three-year term of office on council, gained a large circle of friends. Born in Walkerton, he was educated in Grey County and came to Preston from Hanover. During the First World War he served overseas with the Chesley Regiment. In April, 1942, he was named alderman on the Preston council when a vacancy was created by resignation, of A .W. Eltherington as reeve to accept the position of assessor and tax collector. Charles Talbot was named reeve and Mr. Heimbecker was appointed to fill the aldermans vacancy. He retired from public office due to ill health at the conclusion of the 1944 term. A member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, he served on the church council, taught Sunday school for some years and was a member of the Men's Bible class of the church. A member of Preston Cambridge Lodge, 1.0.0.F. and Encampment, he served as past district deputy-grand master of District 13. He was a member of the Preston Canadian Legion branch. His wife predeceased him four years ago. A daughter, Mrs. Edward (June) Hoshoian and a son, Ardell, at home; two sisters, Mrs. Louis Grahlman, Dornock and Mrs. Albert Stafford, Berkley; three brothers, William of Holland Centre, Carl of Guelph and Herbert of Neustadt, survive. The body is resting at the Stager-Pass Funeral Home where the funeral will be held Sunday at 4 o'clock. Interment will be in the Preston Cemetery.
