  CLAYTON E. HURLBUT Married: Ida May Atkinson. Clayton Hurlbut was born and raised in Toronto. Shortly after founding the Hurlbut Shoe Co. Ltd. in 1892 he moved the business to Preston to a building at the corner of Guelph St., (now Laurel), and Queen St. The company produced approximately one thousand pairs of shoes daily including Mocassins, Infants Soft Sole Shoes and slippers for women and children. Mr. Hurlbut served on the Preston School Board and was a one time president of Freeport Sanatorium. He was the mayor of Preston in 1915 and 1916 and was active in the Canadian Manufacturers' Association. Mr. Hurlbut returned to Toronto on his retirement in 1930.
