- Miss Winnifred Buehler
GALT - Miss Winnifred Buehler, 60, of Preston, was killed here today in a freak chain reaction accident at the CPR station, while waiting for a train to Toronto. She planned to visit a sister there. Police believe the fatality happened this way: A freight car was standing on the track near the railway platform. It started to move after it was jarred by a passing train. The freight car, in some manner, caused a baggage truck to start rolling, then it knocked down a heavy pole.
CRUSHED BY POLE
Miss Buehler jumped from the path of the baggage truck, but was crushed by the falling pole. Details are not yet clear, but this is approximately what happened, Police Chief B. F. Carson said. An autopsy will be performed today and it is probable an inquest will be held, he said. The accident was reported about 6: 40 a.m. Dr. James McQueen, Galt, is coroner in charge of investigating the accident. Coroner Dr. C. G. Powers, Preston, conducted the preliminary investigation. Born in Preston, Miss Buehler was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Buehler. Her mother was the former Katherine Schmitt. A lifelong resident of Preston, she was employed by Mosack Electric for 12 years. A member of St. Clement's RC Church, she was also a member of the Altar Society of that Church and of the League of the Sacred Heart.
SURVIVED BY SEVEN
A brother and six sisters survive. They are William Buehler, Owen Sound: Miss Mae Buehler, Toronto: Sybil and Rose Buehler, 350 Breithaupt St., Kitchener; Mrs. Leo (Marie) Doyle, Mrs. Claude (Dorothy) Moreau and Miss Helen Buehler, all of Preston.
