Notes |
- Mrs. Lydia Ann Thomas White, who passed away at her home in Evart, Monday evening, May 23, was born September 19, 1844, in Preston, Canada. She was married, July 8, 1862, in Arkona, Canada, to John White, who preceeded her in death six years ago. To this union where born nine children, four of whom survive, John, of Portland, Oregon; Peter, of Greenville, Ill., Mrs. Lydia Ann Montgomery and Mrs. Edwin Pease, both of Evart, she also leaves twenty-two grand children and thirty-one great grandchildren, and one brother, Alex Thoman, of Toronto, Canada.
Fifty-five years ago, with her husband and family, she came to Michigan, settling in Chippewa township, where they continued to reside until thirteen years ago, when they moved to Evart, where her home has been until she passed away. She was always religiously inclined and with Mrs. Hillary Hodges organized the first Sabbath school in Chippewa township called the Forest Dell Sabbath School. In the years she was soundly converted and united with the Disciples of Christ. Later she fell away; but was reclaimed under the labors of Rev. Pritchard, twenty-six years ago and at that time united with the Free Methodist church, of which she continued a faithful Member until the time of her death.
She was a faithful wife, a loving mother, a kind neighbor and a loyal friend.
Funeral services, conducted by Rev. G. A. Hartle, were held Thursday afternoon, May 26th at the house at 1:30 o:clock, and at the Free Methodist church at 2 o;clock with interment in Forest Hill cemetery.
