  George J. Haid Of Preston Dies Prominent in Business And P.U.C. Circles PRESTON. July 3 - One of Preston's best known citizens, George J. Haid. 50, died today at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener. He resided in Preston for the past 32 years during which time he was prominent in the business life of the Town. He took a keen interest in civic affairs. Deceased had been in declining health for three years and was removed to the hospital ten days ago. He was born in Hessen. Mr. Haid was an electrician, learning the trade in Regina where he worked for the Saskatchewan Hydro Electric Power Commission. Later he worked in Detroit with the Bell Telephone Company and sublequently returned to Canada where he was employed with the Galt H.E.P.C. Thirty-two years ago Mr. Haid moved to Preston and worked with the Preston hydro company. In 1918 he opened an electrical store on Wellington street. Later he started in business on King street, where he remained until his retirement four years ago. The late Mr. Haid was keenly interested in local water and light activities. He was elected to the commission in 1938 and the following year was appointed vice-chairman of the commission. He continued to serve for the next two years. Deceased was a member of St. Clements R.C. church. Surviving are his wife, Irene Schaller, a son, Sylvester of Preston, a daughter, Audrey of Preston, three brothers, Frank of Preston, Herbert of Saskatoon, Charles of Humboldt, Sask., four sisters, Miss Clara Haid and Mrs. William Schaller of Preston, Mrs. Adam Mahler of Galt and Miss Eleanor Haid of Hamilton. Funeral service will be held at St. Clement's R.C. Church, Satutday morning at 9 o'clock. Interment will be in the Preston Roman Catholic cemetery.
