- Beaten by Bandits, Man Dies Suddenly
AYR - Injuries received by Harold Hodgson when two masked men held up his service station at Wrigley's Corners, Dec. 27, may have had something to do with his sudden death yesterday. Dr. A. S. Dunton of Paris said today. "I cannot answer definitely but there may be a connection," Dr. Dunton told The Record. Mr. Hodgson died in Willet Hospital, Paris. Dr. Dunton said an autopsy was performed by Dr. L. A. Jentz, pathologist at Brantford General Hospital. Dr. Dunton said he expects an inquest will be held. He doubted that results of the autopsy would be announced before an inquest.
HAD CHEST PAINS
Mr. Hodgson, 56, was beaten and kicked by two armed men during a robbery of his service station and confectionery store. He had complained of pains in the chest since the robbery and Monday entered Paris Hospital for an examination. He died yesterday. The two armed men with stockings pulled over their heads entered the combination store and service station and looted the cash register of $50. The bandits fired a shot at Mrs. Hodgson but it did not hit her. The two men who committed the holdup are still at large Mr. Hodgson's death has raised the question of whether they might face a murder charge when apprehended. Crown Attorney Daufman today said "I have no information on the case so I cannot say what charge would be laid." Son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hodgson, Mr. Hodgson was born in Anglo Township and received his education at Bolton school. He married Gertrude Fach of Blair 32 years ago and moved to Ayr 20 years ago where he farmed on the Ayr-Wrigley's Corners road. Seven years ago he took over the gasoline station at Wrigley's Corners. He was a trustee for Wrigley's Corners School.
