Notes |
- A. N. BERLET.
This gentlemen was born in New. Hamburg in 1876, and for one of his age evinces considerable ability as a business man. He is proprietor of the large brick and tile yards, which for many years have furnished brick and tile for a wide section. He has been in charge of this plant for about six years, and learned the business under his father. He is a hard worker, being constantly on duty in common with his working men, ten of whom he keeps employed during the busy season. The plant has a capacity of turning cut 15,000 wire cut and 10,000 stock brick per day, and has also a capacity for producing 10,000 21 inch tile per day. A twenty-two horse power engine is used and the machinery is of the most modern type Last season be turned out fourteen kilns and the entire output was disposed of by spring. That number will be increased this season as the ninth kiln has been finished already this season. There are about fifteen acres of the finest quality of clay, hence there will be no lack of material for at least fifty five years to come As Mr. Berlet is thoroughly experienced in brick and tile making and the works being constantly under his personal supervision, patrons can be assured of getting good material. The wire cut brick manufactured here are as smooth as glass, the clay being free from gravel stones and other hard substances, a feature that is not always the case in many brick yards. The stock brick are also of a superior finish and quality. In the line of tile, Mr. Berlet gives first class satisfaction and in the course of a year he disposes of many thousands to the farmers in a radius of many miles. The majority of the handsome new brick residences and public buildings in Hamburg and vicinity are of the product of these yards. Mr. Berlet was formerly a moulder by trade. He will undoubtedly make a success in his present vocation if hard work and energy are to be taken into account, and is therefore highly worthy of the large field of patronage he is now enjoying.
