Notes |
- Thomas Baker Dies at Paris
A former prominent and highly esteemed resident of this village, in the person of Thomas Baker, died in Paris on Thursday night in his 68th year. He had been an invalid for the past three years from heart trouble. Mr. Baker was born in Ayr and was a son of the late William Baker, who settled here in 1846, and who conducted a large general merchandizing business, being succeeded by his son and Mr. David McColl. The deceased withdrew from the business quite a few years since and went on the road for a time, but continued to make his home in Ayr up to ten years ago when he went to Paris. In 1873 he married Miss Georgina Appleby, who with two daughters survives, together with one sister, Mrs. D. McColl of this village. The funeral took place on Saturday afternoon, when interment was made in the family plot at the Ayr Cemetery.
