- ANOTHER OLD RESIDENT
Passes Away in the Person of Mr. Wm. Price
While retiring on Sunday night, about 11 o'clock, Mr. Wm. Price, Queen street, was, as mentioned in yesterday's Reformer, stricken with a severe stroke of paralysis on the right side. So terrible was the stroke that it extended the whole length of his side and throughout parts of the body. Mr. Price never regained consciousness and was utterly unable to speak or hear. Just twenty-seven hours after the attack, he succumbed, passing away this morning at 3 o'clock. The late Wm. Price was born in the city of Hastings, Essex county, England, in the year 1820. He was married at an early age to Miss Dale, of London, England. In the year 1851 he came to this country, first settling in New York city and New Jersey for a short time. Subsequently deceased came to Galt, where he has resided ever since. The year following Mr. Price's immigration to Canada, his wife and only son followed him, joining the father and husband at Galt. Nearly all his life did Mr. Price follow the trade of painter, he being one of the oldest and most widely known knights of the brush, in this part of the country. For a period of seventeen years he was employed with the late James Craig, then for some time he was in the painting business with the late, John McFarlane. During the last years that he followed the trade he worked much of the time for Mr. E. Radigan. Of late years deceased had led a retired life. The late Mr. Price's father and mother died many years ago in the old country; he leaves no relatives In this country. A wife and one son, Mr. John Price, employed with Mr. E. Radigan, are left to deplore his loss. In politics the deceased was a Conservative and in religion an Episcopalian. For over 40 years he was a resident of Galt, being well known and well liked by a large circle of friends and citizens. The funeral will take place from the family residence, Queen street, to Mount View cemetery, on Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Rev. Mr. Ridley, rector of Galt, will conduct the funeral solemnities. Deceased was aged 74 years, 8 months and 18 days.
