Notes |
- Martin Witmer, "son of David Witmer,(David was an elder brother to Abraham who settled near Hespeler in 1804) was born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, April 22nd, 1800. He came to Canada when a young man and settled at Hespeler. After being here for several years he and his cousin, Jacob Witmer, went to Pennsylvania on a visit. After spending several months with their Pennsylvania friends, they returned to their Canadian home where Mr. M. Witmer was (soon after his return) married to Catherine Rittinger. She was born January 7th, 1812, and died May 5th, 1877. After their marriage they moved on the farm now possessed by John Clemens, near "Fisher's Mills", where they resided many years. When well advanced in years they moved to Hespeler where they resided until their deaths. He died March 7th, 1853. To them were born twelve children"
