      MR. VALTIN LIMPERT,

One of Hespeler's sturdy pioneers joined the great majority early Tuesday morning, when Valtin Limpert passed away, at the Galt Hospital, death resulting from shock following an operation.

Deceased had been in failing health for some time and during the past week gangrene developed in his right foot. He suffered greatly and it was thought advisable to perform an operation. He was taken to the Galt Hospital, where Drs. Hutchison and Ratz amputated the limb above the knee, on Wednesday morning, and although he came through the ordeal nicely and was apparently in a most satisfactory condition, the shook was too much for his already weakened system, and he passed peacefully away at nine o'clock this morning.

Deceased, who was in His 87th year, was born in Saxe-Weimar, Eisenach, Germany, and came to Canada in company with the late Geo. Guenther about 1849. He worked for a time in Montreal and Kingston, and arrived in a Preston the year of the cholera epidemic there, coming to Hespeler very shortly afterwards, and with the exception of some four years spent in Alberta, he has resided here ever since - or in all over 60 years - so that he may in very fact be justly termed one of Hespeler's pioneers. He was a fine, sturdy character, and in the earlier days took an active interest in the doings of the then village. A talented musician, he organized the first Hespeler band, and was its leader for many years, and many stories are told of his exacting methods with his bandsmen, all of whom were so benefited by this thorough training that the Hespeler band was one of the best musical organizations in those days.

He was a painter and decorator by trade and was in business here for nearly half a century, and in this, too, his thoroughness was very apparent. He was an artist at his trade, and was particularly proficient as a grainer, and was justly proud of his ability in this line, and many specimens of his handiwork in various houses in town can still be seen, looking almost as bright and natural as the day the work was done.

In politics he was a staunch Conservative and in religion a Lutheran, and was generally respected and esteemed by his fellow citizens.

Some ten years ago he retired from business activities and although then 76 years of age, went to visit his sons in the west, and took up and proved a homestead, which he later sold and returned to enjoy the evening of his days in his old home.

Deceased was married in 1855 to Susannah Wittmer, who predeceased him three years ago. He leaves to mourn his loss four sons and six daughters, Mark, in Battle Creek, S. C.; Harry, of Victor, Alta; Orion, of Battleford, Sask.; and John, of Hespeler; Mrs. W. E. Wildfong, of Preston; Mrs. Harry Schumm, of Baden; Mrs. Andrew Jardine, Mrs. Will Renwick, Mrs. C. K. Henderson and Miss Christie of Hespeler. Three sons, Ervin, Bernard and Edbert, passed away some years ago.

The funeral will be held from his later residence, Queen street east, where services will be held on Saturday at 2.30 o'clock p. m., thence to the Hespeler cemetery for interment.
