    • Douglas Schmidt Killed In Accident

Douglas Schmidt, 25, of Stratford, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Eric Schmidt, New Hamburg, was killed as a result of a single car accident north of Milverton on Saturday night, December 28.

The accident occurred at 11:30 p.m. when the car in which Mr. Schmidt was driving struck a bridge abutment on Highway 19, five miles north of Milverton. He was alone in the car.

The police cruiser from Milverton was the first on the scene. Both men in the police cruiser who were making a preliminary investigation, Norman Arand, RR 2. Milverton and a part-time constable of the village of Milverton, Mark Jutzi, were struck by a car driven by George Elg, RR 2, Milverton.

An OPP cruiser from the Listowel detachment arrived at the double accident scene a short time later and both injured men were removed to hospital. Mr. Schmidt died at the scene.

Surviving Mr. Schmidt, besides his parents, are his wife, the former Sally Jones; one son, Terry and one daughter, Tammy, all of Owen Sound and three sisters, Mrs. Jack (Jean) Davidson of Stratford, Mrs. Thomas (Sharon) Clements and Shirley, both of New Hamburg.

Services were held at Zion United Church, New Hamburg last Tuesday.

Temporary entombment was held in the Graff Memorial Chapel, New Hamburg.

The Bruce J. Omand Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
