- Henry L. Knechtel - By Record Staff Writer - Elmira - Henry L. Knechtel, 89, of 43 King St., Elmira, died Thursday at this home after a lengthy illness. Born in North Easthope, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Valentine Knechtel, and farmed in the North Easthope district until he retired in 1947. He then moved to Elmira. He was a member of St. James' Lutheran church. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Mary Ann Otto, in April, 1954. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Theodore (Pearl) Hammer of Elmira; and one brother, John of North Easthope. The body will be at the Dreisinger Funeral Chapel until Saturday noon, when removal will be made at St. James' Lutheran Church for service at 3 pm, conducted by Rev. H.W. Baetz. Burial will be in St. James' Church Cemetery.
