- Gies, Jerome Alexander - On Wednesday, Dec. 30, 1998, after a brief illness, at St. Mary's General Hospital, Jerome Gies, age 77 years, of Waterloo and Owen Sound. Jerome was a veteran of the Second World War and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 530, Waterloo. Beloved husband of Doris for 22 years. Dear father to Gary of Kitchener, Phillip and his wife Diane of Cambridge, Carol Buitenhuis and her husband Bert of Cambridge and Step-father to Ted Hannaford of Waterloo, Gary Hannaford and his wife Cathy of Winnipeg, Shirley Evers of Regina, Patricia Williamson and her husband David of Surrey and Linda Kaye and her husband Chris of Dartmouth. He will be fondly remembered by his 18 grandchildren and his 18 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his first wife, Mary in 1976; 11 brothers and sisters and his parents. Friends may call at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home, 621 King St. W., Kitchener, today (Thursday) from 7-9 pm and on Friday from 2-4 pm. Parish prayers will be recited at the funeral home tonight (Thursday) at 8 pm. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday at 10 am at St. Michael's RC Church, University Avenue, Waterloo, Father Peter Tuygen Nguygen officiating. Interment to follow in Parkview Cemetery. Reception in the Ratz-Bechtel Family Centre. As expressions of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
