  Sudden Death - The Passing of One of Blenheim's Oldest Inhabitants - The community was very sensibly shocked on Monday to learn of the sudden death of Mr. John Patterson, which event took place at his residence, lot 1, con. 10, Blenheim, at 10 a.m. that day. Mr. Patterson had been in failing health for some time past, but was about the farm on Monday as usual and his sudden calling is attributed to heart failure. On Saturday he was in town on business and was caller at this office, where he subscribed for The News. The deceased was born in Roxboroughshire, Scotland, in 1830, and was therefore in his 74th year. He came to Canada about 50 years ago, settling first near Galt, afterwards removing to the vicinity of Roseville, and from thence to Waterloo. Later he settled on a farm near the C.P.R. station, Ayr, and finally moved to the farm where he died, and had resided there some 40 years. He was a Presbyterian in religion - a member of Knox Church, Ayr - and in politics a Liberal. He never aspired to any position in municipal affairs, and was noted as a quiet, unobtrusive citizen, being well and favorably known over a wide section of country. His wife, whose maiden name was Jane Hogg, predeceased him by two years. The surviving family comprise four daughters and one son. They are Mrs. Kempthorne and Mrs. Easton, of Washington, Ont., and Annie, Ellen and William at home. The funeral will take place from his late residence at 2.30 p.m., today (Thursday) to Ayr cemetery, and will doubtless be very largely attended. The Ayr News Nov 17 1904 pg 9
