- KRIEG, JOHN NICHOLAS THEODORE
Puslinch Township Farmer Ends His Life with Two Shots from Rifle Feared Recurrence of Heart Attack Suffered Last Winter
Mr. Krieg, who lived at lot 7, concession 3, Puslinch Township near Puslinch Lake, suffered a very severe heart attack last winter. He was in bad health until this summer, when he was able to get up again and do light work around his farm. A few days ago, he felt ill again and went to see his physician, who advised him to go home and go to bed. Coroner Dr. T. H. Orton believed that Mr. Krieg feared a recurrence of the heart attack. He had kept the rifle, a very short weapon, in his room ever since his barn was destroyed by fire last year. On Thursday morning, it is believed that he placed the rifle to his forehead but it must have been misdirected, as the Coroner's examination revealed that it had simply glanced off and gone out again through the scalp. There was an interval of some minutes between the shots, while Mr. Krieg took out the spent shell and put in a new cartridge in the single-shot . 32 calibre rifle. The second shot penetrated the centre of his forehead. Mr. Krieg was born in Kitchener 66 years ago but has been a resident of this vicinity most of his life. His wife predeceased him nearly three years ago. Surviving are William of Cleveland; James and Robert of Kitchener; George, Charles and Arthur in Preston; Albert, John and Mrs. Holtzhauer of Niagara Falls; Joseph in Princeton; Irvin on the homestead; one brother, Herman in Hespeler; three sisters, Mrs. Noble of Cottam; Mrs. O'Connell of Kitchener; and Mrs. Weaver of Chicago. Mr. Krieg was a member of St. James' Lutheran Church in Hespeler. Private funeral at 2: 30, with interment in Hespeler Cemetery.
