- MARTIN, Seleda (Sittler)
Seleda passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 22, 2013, at Freeport Health Centre as the result of a stroke, at the age of 79 years. She was the beloved wife of the late Clifford Martin (2011). Dear mother of Arlene and Terry Martin of Elmira and Ron and Chris (Chown) Martin of MacTier. Beloved Grandma of Nathan Martin and Brian Martin of Waterloo and Noah Martin of MacTier. Sister of Eli and Florence Sittler of Elmira. Sister-in-law of Beulah and Dale Bennett of Frederick, MD, and Amsey and Mildred Martin of Elmira. Lovingly remembered by nieces Darlene, Carol and Elaine Sittler, Sheila and Heather Bennett, Lisa (Alan) Kouchinsky and nephew Paul (Sarah) Sittler. Predeceased by infant son Paul, sister Almeda, brother Alvin and parents Alvin and Lovina Sittler. Seleda was a faithful member of Bethel Mennonite Church (Elora) where she was an active participant in the Sewing Circle and prayer meetings. Seleda was a long-time vendor at the Kitchener Farmers' Market where she was affectionately known as "the fudge lady". After her retirement, she kept busy with quilting, gardening, baking and an active social life. When her husband died suddenly and unexpectedly, she moved from Fergus where their large property was more than she could manage on her own, to a new home in Elmira. She settled into the community with grace and dignity. Seleda's greatest joy in life came from spending time with her family. She loved to bake cookies for her grandsons. She was always delighted to offer a helping hand whenever someone was in need. In her final days, Seleda requested that her life be remembered with celebration, not sadness. She knew she would be "going home to Jesus". The family acknowledges with gratitude the staff and volunteers of Freeport Hospital UT3 West, for their compassionate care of Seleda during her final journey. The family will receive their relatives and friends at the Dreisinger Funeral Home , Elmira on Friday, December 27, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. No visitation on Saturday. A memorial service to celebrate Seleda's life will be held at Bethel Mennonite Church, RR 1, Elora on Sunday, December 29, 2013 at 2 p.m. In Seleda's memory, donations to Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy. www.dreisingerfuneralhome.com
