- Henry Gleaves
PRESTON, May 18 - Henry Gleaves, well-known Galt-Preston district resident for many years, died in Westminster Hospital, London, yesterday morning, at the age of 73. Mr. Gleaves, who had been ailing for the past seven years, had been confined to hospital five weeks and recently underwent an operation. Born in Haywood, Lancashire, England, he came to Canada in 1912, and for a short time resided in Hamilton. Since then, with the exception of four years in the services, he resided in the Galt and Preston district. He enlisted with the 18th Battalion, Second Division and served from 1914 to 1918. He was in France for three years. He was a former member of the Galt Canadian Legion. Surviving is a sister, Mrs. Charles Winwood of Speedsville. The body is resting at the Stager-Pass Funeral Home, where the funeral will be held Wednesday, at 3: 30. Rev. R. T. Appleyard of St. John's Anglican Church, Preston, will officiate. Interment will be in the Preston cemetery.
