- Hicklin, Ralph
PRESTON, Ralph Hicklin, veteran Ontario newspaperman, died Tuesday of cancer, at Princess Margaret Hospital, Toronto, after a lengthy illness. He was 47. Mr Hicklin, who joined the staff of The Telegram in Toronto in 1967, was a drama and ballet critic, for that paper. He had worked for the Chatham News, The Windsor Star and the Globe and Mail. He won the National Newspaper Award, for feature writing in 1956, a Western Ontario Newspaper Award for humorous writing in 1958, a Canadian Aviation Award and a Canadian Drama Award. He also taught English at the University of New Brunswick and Ryerson Polytechnical Institute. Born in Chatham, he was predeceased by his father, Ross Hicklin. Surviving are his mother in Preston, a sister, Mrs. Harriet Donald. of Preston and a brother, Ross of Galt .The body is at the Barthel-Stager Funeral Home, Preston, where funeral service will be held Thursday, at 4 p.m. Burial will be in Park Lawn cemetery, Preston.
